My name is Natalie VanDerWal and I am a senior photojournalism student at the University of North Texas. I've been a journalist for eight years and have skills in live online news reporting, long-form and feature journalism, videography, photography and photo, video and copy editing. I have a deep love for capturing the beauty of nature and the human experience. I aspire to tell the hard-hitting, intimate and emotional stories that deserve to be told. My innate eye for capturing even the smallest of details, no matter the subject or the story, is what makes me the great photographer I am.
I have 12 published stories with the North Texas Daily, which I wrote independently, and have worked with the Daily's staff collaboratively to compose two pieces covering issues on campus at UNT. I also worked with the Denton Record-Chronicle and KERA to cover Election Day on Nov. 5, 2024 at a Denton County polling location. I am a member of UNT's chapter of the National Press Photographers Association.
I will graduate from the University of North Texas in May 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with a concentration in Photojournalism and a minor in Peace Studies. UNT's Mayborn School of Journalism is nationally accredited by ACEJMC, the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. During my time with the Mayborn, I also served as a Mayborn Student Ambassador and a CLASS Journalism Ambassador.
I'll be working with D Magazine Partners as an Administrative Intern during the summer following my graduation.
